CONCLUSION

The Brooks Cascadia 7 is for the runner looking for the traditional trail running shoe that is durable and an all-purpose shoe for just about any condition.

The things I liked:

Very durable and breathable upper
Great traction in wet and muddy trails due to the updated triangular lugs
Secure fit

The things to improve:

Hmmm, make it lighter, say around 10 oz, and 8 mm drop (but then again, this is an all-purpose shoe)

6.) It’s Not All Running
I’ve seen it a few thousands times at this point. First time ultra runners show up to the starting line thinking that they’re really going to run all 50 miles.. and I do mean run all 50 miles. That’s just not realistic. For your first ultra, you should definitely make it your plan to walk all the ups, run the downs and run the flats where you can. You’ll enjoy your experience much more and learn a hell of a lot more as well. Training your body to power hike and walk fast is some of the most important training you can do as an ultra runner.

Do Not Race or Do Speedwork Too Often

Researchers have found a correlation between injuries and frequent race efforts. This connection also extends to speedwork, since intervals also require a near-maximal effort. So if you train fast once or twice a week and then race on the weekend, that’s a lot of hard efforts without sufficient rest, particularly if you follow this pattern week after week. Regular speed training is fine for those aiming for podium placements or age-group awards, but it is not recommended for the average runner.

Weeks ago, I wrote Principal Painter an email about her and her staff’s constant jaywalking in front of the school on M street. The district pays a crossing guard to man the crossing all day at 20th street and on 21 street there are lights and cross walks.

Time and time again, I see her and her staff leave the main office (center of the block) and jaywalk across the street to their cars.

So I wrote an informal email that said “I know you are busy but it saddens me and my son to see you jaywalking almost everyday. Please be a good example and use the crosswalk.”

The reason I sent it that day was my son’s mom picked him up that day and started to head to the car and he said “Mom, we do not jaywalk like the Principal” and they went to the light and crossed.

Well weeks went by and I never heard from her and I do not go to the school that often but today I did and I saw the Principal. I asked to speak with her and asked if she had got my email.

She looked at me blankly and then I said it was about the jaywalking. Then she got defensive, annoyed and her first response was, “It is not jaywalking”.

Not, oh i am sorry I did not write you back or I did not get the email just I was not jaywalking. I explained what I see her and her staff do and she said it was legal. That she is walking from alley to alleyway and that is not jaywalking.

Well there is an alley on the other side of the street but none on the school side plus she does not go straight across. Her and her staff go all over the road depending on where they parked in the “2 Hour Only” street parking area.

I said it might be technically legal but it is still setting a bad example for students and their parents who also jaywalk all the time. She just glared at me and did not respond and I could tell she was annoyed with me.

After her stare down she finally said, I can get the code if you want to see it. I restated that even if it was “legal”, her and her staff should use the crosswalks and set a good example.

Her response was “I do not do it in front of the students”. Well my son is a student and he sees them do it all the time. I could tell I was getting no where and she was getting even more annoyed so I just gave up and walked out of the office.

As I walked by a couple parents gave me the thumbs up btw.
